Jackie and I met on the other side of the world, working together in Edinburgh by day, dancing (okay, attempting to dance) the salsa by night.
I watched Jackie during her pregnancy and remember holding her daughter when she was just a few months old – so petite, beautiful, like a little bird.
Years passed, Jackie’s family grew and then they too returned to Australia. And as if we needed more proof that the world is indeed, a very small place, Jackie and I ran into each other in the Valley, completely out of the blue. We exchanged "hellos" and "hows life?", promising to have coffee. Then, before we knew it, three years had passed again.
To finally meet Jackie again this year and see the little bird I held all those years ago a beautiful, tall, strong girl at 7 years of age, was wonderfully surreal. Her little sister by her side, I instantly fell in love with the girls and loved how walking and talking with Jackie and her husband Ruairi was so easy, so timeless.
Our session together was blessed with beautiful scenery, incredible light and a sun shower.
Jackie, Ruairi – congratulations on all you have achieved. I loved our afternoon together and no matter the time or distance that passes, I take comfort in knowing that the conversation and laughs will always be effortless.
