Lara + Zac | Gold Coast Hinterland Wedding

The hinterland has it's own ideas when it comes to weather.

When I left the house, it was blue skies and balmy. When I turned off the M1, the same blue skies prevailed. As I headed further towards the hinterland however, blue gave way to grey and by the time I reached Binna Burra Mountain Lodge, it was as though I'd travelled to another part of the country. The temperature dropped about 10 degrees and as smoke billowed out of the lodge chimney, the smell of wood-fire filled my senses.

With raindrops falling off fern leaves, it was about as romantic as it gets.

The sun did come out to play while Lara and Zac got ready in adjoining lodges. It stayed for the first half of the ceremony and only when we all celebrated it's presence, did it decide to retire for the day and make way for the heavy stuff.

There are so many moments that touched me during the day, moments that will stay with me for a long time. Like when Lara - with about 5 minutes to go before her ceremony - clasped her hands together, threw her head back and said with such unadulterated joy, "getting married is SO much fun". She was the epitome of radiance. Or when after their first kiss - rain well and truly set in - Lara snuggled into Zac's chest for a moment, as though they were the only two in the world. Or when we were gifted the most extraordinary rainbow as we made our way towards the shelter of reception. Or at the reception - before the bridal party entered - the entire room was full of song, acapella harmonies to Billy Joel's "The longest time". When Zac's sister stood by her Mum's side, support and strength as they finished the mother of the groom speech together. When Lara's dad brought out the ukulele and sang a song that spoke of stars falling around her. At the end of the evening, a dance-floor filled with love, couples and friends and children just cuddling into one another.

Yup, the hinterland really does have it's own ideas when it comes to weather and for me, that's the thing I love about it. The warmth of the beautiful people celebrating with Zac and Lara on their wedding day really did warm me to the very core.
